Have you checked out all of the 31 Days series linked up at Nester’s place? I look forward to checking out some of the other great posts this month. Over 900 blogs have already signed up to participate.

I hope to give you ideas for editing your photos by showing you 31 Days of Before & After Shots. I get inspired by other people’s work and I hope you do, too!

Here is the original of this image of my son:

Day 2 - Before

This is the final, edited image:

Day 2 - After

Here are my edits:

  1. Use the spot removal tool in Lightroom to get rid of the blemishes (I never edit away the scar under his eye—that’s part of him—but I edit zits. They’re temporary and that’s not how I see him.)
  2. Use Lightroom’s B&W High Contrast preset (convert the image to black and white and bump the contrast settings, making the blacks blacker and the whites whiter.)
  3. Tweak the exposure (brightness) until it feels right.

I converted this photo to black and white to even the skin tone. It’s more dramatic and really makes his eyes pop.

What do you think?
