This year I decided I’d had enough of resolutions and didn’t even attempt to make any. Sometimes, however, the resolutions just find you.
I didn’t plan on adopting a fitness plan, but a visit to the doctor convinced me otherwise.
We hadn’t decided on a healthy eating plan, but then we joined the Good and Good for You Challenge.
Now we’re at it again with the Listerine and Reach Healthy Habits for a Lifetime Oral Care Challenge.
I didn’t immediately say yes when asked to join the challenge. It involves brushing, flossing, and rinsing twice a day for three weeks—not just me, but my whole family. I needed to make absolutely sure everyone was committed. I want my kids to have healthy dental habits, but I can’t actually hold them down and floss their teeth, right?
The answer was a big yes!—we were all in.
I actually gasped when I opened the box of supplies: Barbie, Phineas & Ferb, super heroes and Total Care toothbrushes from Reach; Listerine rinses; and dental floss. I nabbed the Total Care Zero rinse: I’m an addict. Everyone got a new toothbrush and each bathroom got new floss and rinse. Thankfully, we managed to avoid a fight over the Phineas & Ferb products.
The kids have truly embraced the challenge. Whenever I ask if they’ve brushed, flossed, and rinsed, the answer is almost always yes.
Having new products contributes a lot to the excitement. I think the most important change for us is using the rinses. I’m extremely frugal and always looked at them as a bonus product, something fun but not really necessary. After participating in a live oral care chat last week, I now know that brushing alone misses germs in 75% of your mouth. Seventy five percent!
Rinses, however, reach 100%. The kids love them, too, so it’s an easy way to make a big difference in our family’s oral health. We’re one week into the challenge and going strong!
Does your family use oral rinses? Did you have any idea what a difference they make?
Disclosure: I received products and compensation from Johnson & Johnson and The Motherhood as part of my participation in the Oral Care Challenge. Thoughts and opinions are my own.
All 5 of us use mouth rinse – and love it! I understand what you mean by “bonus product” and don’t have them use it every time. We do use rinse at least once a day. For me personally – if I don’t use rinse regularly I start getting mouth sores – and that’s a big incentive to keep rinsing!
Jendi, that is a big incentive to keep rinsing! My mouth just feels fresher.
Hi Dawn, I love your blog. Found it a few weeks ago. Just going through my reader and noticed I hadn’t seen any of your posts… They aren’t coming through the feed (last posts were from December). Anyway, just wanted to let you know in case something was amiss and it isn’t just me who is missing your posts in the reader feed. PS ~ My kiddos love Smart Rinse and use it everyday. 🙂
Oh, no! Kim, what reader do you use?
