When the weather warms it’s time to dust off the barbecue. My husband is king of the grill and cooks up some mean burgers and dogs. One of our favorite ways to offset the hot temperatures and finish off cook-outs is with ice cream.

This weekend we picked up Nestle Crunch bars and Drumsticks in a strawberry/vanilla/vanilla fudge multi-pack to go with our hamburgers and hotdogs. We don’t always keep ice cream in the house: with 9 of us here, it wouldn’t last a day. We love to splurge on special occasions or when cooking out, though.

{We won’t talk about the Häagen-Dazs up there. I tend to hide it in the back of our freezer’s secret compartment, tucked behind the butter: a mommy indulgence.}

My 9-year-old son—the one going nutty with the Drumsticks—went to the store with me and picked out the kid ice cream while I tried to hide the Häagen-Dazs in the cart and hope he’d forget about it. (Hey, at least I’m honest.)

My kids were ready to fight for their favorites; I even saw them eating the tops off of their Drumsticks and then trading with each other to try different flavors. I think it’s time to restock.

My all-time favorite ice cream is Häagen-Dazs dulce de leche (but oh, my goodness, that chocolate peanut butter was a good second choice). What’s yours?
