I now know our anniversary getaway destination: Pigeon Forge, TN! Although I enjoy the beach, my husband knows that the mountains are my favorite.
Raised in Arkansas, my family loved to get away to Eureka Springs, in the Ozark Mountains. Since we’ve lived in Georgia, the Pigeon Forge/Gatlinburg area (the towns are only separated by about 5 miles) and the Great Smoky Mountains are our favorite in this part of the world. It takes us about 4 hours to drive here.
One of my requests on the trip was to eat at Cracker Barrel, which I love but seem to only visit while traveling. If there’s one thing better than Cracker Barrel, it’s a Cracker Barrel adjacent to a Krispy Kreme, and that’s where we went for supper last night.
One of our most exciting new discoveries last night was the Titanic Museum, which opened this year. Being a Titanic buff, that was my special request for today’s adventures. We spent nearly 3 hours there. It contains many historical artifacts and honors the memory of those involved in the tragedy.
Tonight’s plans are undecided, but for the moment we’re grabbing some sweet tea, fries, and free wi-fi at McDonald’s, the only internet access we’ve found.

we ate at that cracker barrel and got donuts afterward. it was wonderful. we were there this summer.
Max, Becky, and I were there last weekend. We stayed at the Mountain Trace Inn, which has been freshly renovated. This place has free WiFi with no password required. Our maid made up one of our beds with Cheez-Its still in it and didn’t vacuum the floor. Max had a cold and the weekend didn’t go too well, but we’re looking forward to going back next year.
We went to Dollywood and to the Dixie Stampede. We were disappointed to learn that photography isn’t allowed during the show at the Stampede, even if no flash is used. We took our 70-200 f/2.8 for nothing.
Aw, what a great hubby you have! I love cracker barrel, and the Tenn. mountains, too.
Oh, Pigeon Forge is one of my fav places in the world! My brother has an art gallery there – His gallery is located right behind the Old Mill at traffic light number 7. Spencer Williams is him name and if you can stop by – his work is fantastic! Enjoy your time in the mountains!

Yahoo! We lived in Hendersonville, TN for 15 yrs before moving to OH. We had both of our babies there, so they are native Volunteers.
The Titanic exhibit sounds so interesting–glad you got a chance to experience it.
Have a wonderful time in the TN mountains. Weather should be perfect for a nice fire in the evenings. Stay cozy!
We live only 30 minutes from Pigeon Forge. We love the mountains. too. We’ve not done the Titanic yet, but want to when we can go without the kids (3, 2 and 8 mo.). My husband works at Dollywood so we do a lot of the activities in the area. If you are up for something lighthearted The Comedy Barn is hilarious in our opinion.
We are fans of the mountains too, but not because we used to live there… more like we live in the land of flatness and appreciate the variety and beauty of mountains!
We have a Cracker Barrel close to us too. Don’t know why we don’t go too often. I think because we’re always in a rush to get in and get out.
Here’s a Krispy Kreme question for you. What are your thoughts on the Kool Kreme ice cream addition to the donuts?
