I’m not sure why it took a homeschool meme last year to make me realize the importance of homeschool class pictures, but now my biggest regret is that we don’t have them for the first 16 years of our homeschool. This is the beginning of year 18 for us and our second year of class pics (here’s 2009).
If you homeschool, for goodness’ sakes don’t neglect this like we did for too long!
The Good:
Can you say, “Growing up too fast!”?
The Bad and the Ugly:
Little sister combed out his hair. We cut it short today. The kids say it looks like Saturn in this picture. 🙂
Overzealous assistants:
What about you? Do you take your own class pictures?
Dawn your kids are cutie patooties!
adorable!
Such beautiful children (young adults!)
What a fun time you must have with them all!
Your kids are so cute and I just love this idea!!! Where have I been – never thought of taking an annual pic!!! Have a fun weekend…
What a great-looking bunch of kids! Good job with the school pics.
That has been on my to-do list for a couple of weeks now. Must. get. it. done.
Hey, I have a ginormous deflector like that too. It takes me a while to figure out how to fold it back up to fit in its handy-dandy case. Do you use it very much? Have you noticed a big difference in the quality of your pics? I’ve only tried it once and the difference wasn’t very noticeable. Maybe I should try it on a sunnier day?
Beautiful! your kids are to cute 😉 my kids goto school, but to save money I recently started taking my own sports photos and making my own “sports cards” with 4 kids in activities the photos become quite expensive.
Hey Mrs. Dawn, I just saw the link to your website on the homework e-mail. This website is amazing!!! I’ve had so much fun looking over it. You photography is beautiful and the photo editing is incredible. You should teach a photography class at CC! We have several horses and new puppies, so if you want to bring your children up to take pictures with them you are more than welcome to anytime. I’m going to keep cruising around this awesome site, so I’ll see you Tuesday! 🙂 Enjoy the rest of the weekend

Marsha(MarshaMarsha!), my 15yos and I challenged my 10yod to see if she could fold up that reflector when we got ready to leave. 🙂
I love shooting at the house you see in these pictures, but exposure is tricky sometimes on that porch. The key to the reflector is getting a kid who tries to do a good job holding it. If they just stand behind and hold in front of them and don’t look at the subject, you get nothing. You can really “see” it when the reflector is held properly.
We took a batch of photos recently and it was easy to tell at a glance when my “assistant” (son!) quit paying attention and bouncing the light well. 🙂
Honestly, though, I’ve owned it for over two years and I’ve just properly appreciated it in the last few months. Here’s a post at Blissfully Domestic where I talk about using my 5-in-1 reflector.
Caroline! My first student comment – very cool! 🙂
I think a photography class at CC would be a lot of fun. I read a post recently where the photographer talked about the dialectic nature of photography. Unfortunately, that’s probably not enough for us to influence the CC class structure, although it is art. 🙂
Kim, you are so smart. We’ve been doing our own sports pics for a while, but I never thought of making sports cards with them. That would be a good template project! 🙂
Beautiful children! I too didn’t take school pictures for the first few years… darn. Love the outtakes!
Ahhhh, I so never thought of this!!! I take lots of pics but never specifically for the start of a new year!! So I will today. Before our 9th slips by too fast.
