[Contest is closed. The winner is Kathy at Just Another Day in Paradise.]
If you saw my recent post about attending the Straight No Chaser concert here in Atlanta at Center Stage, you know what SNC fans my family has become. We’ve listened to their latest CD, With a Twist, almost continuously since receiving it.
It’s not often that we all agree on the same song as a favorite, but “Fix It” seems to be our universal pick from this CD. I was prepared to try to describe SNC’s cover of this Coldplay song, how it surrounds and caresses you in layer after layer of a capella bliss, but decided to let the song speak for itself.
I thought it would be a lot of fun to make a video slideshow with music in Lightroom and upload it to YouTube. And it was fun, until they sent me an email explaining that my video contained copyrighted material. Oops. They stuck an ad on it and somehow destroyed the flow and image transitions in translation, how I don’t know.
Come over to my house if you want to view it properly. Better yet, just close your eyes and listen.
Nice, huh?
Straight No Chaser serves up another batch of uniquely arranged, a capella covers, ranging from 80s favorites like “The Living Years” and “Don’t Dream It’s Over,” to more recent hits from Red Hot Chili Peppers and Oasis. My other personal favorites are “Wonderwall,” “I’m Yours/Somewhere Over the Rainbow” (SNC has a knack for combining two songs into something fresh and new), and “Under the Bridge.” Listen to full versions online here.
My husband and I have placed bets on the name of the next SNC album: I vote for the Bond-inspired Shaken Not Stirred (copyrighted material again?) and his money is on On the Rocks. Only time will tell.

I love the pictures in your video clip. You are a fantastic photographer. ” Fix You” is a favorite of mine as well. I’m already a dedicated Chaser (what SNC calls their fans) and have bought many copies of their CDs for friends and family. You have great taste in music. 😉
No need to enter me in your giveaway. I would rather you give the CD to someone who has not discovered SNC yet.
Kathy,
I’m a fellow Chaser, like Lynnette. These guys are a wonderful bunch of young men! Favorite song? I like their verson of “Time of the Season” as well as “Auld Lang Syne.” Nice photos in your video =)
I’ve seen a little of their Christmas songs – enough to know we enjoy them. Not enough to call us fans yet.

I recently discovered your site through Scott Kelby’s Alltop-page.
Great site with some really inspiring stuff.
I had never heard of Straight No Chaser. But (being an acapella-fan) your articles, video and photos made me go to their site and listen to some of the stuff that was on there and I’m hooked.
Have to find me a store here in the Netherlands to buy some of their CD’s (or use the internet…)
First song that I (partially) listened to, but really like: Living years!
Keep up the good work.
Greetings,
Marco
Marco, yours is the kind of comment that just makes my day. 🙂
Living Years is one of those songs that always chokes me up, and I agree that this is a good cover of it. If you check out SNC’s website I think there are also links for buying the CD via download. I have an emusic subscription, so I purchase a lot of music that way.
I am a fan for about one week– since one of my fav authors, Paul Young, posted about them coming back to his house for brunch after a recent show in the Portland, OR area… I spent most of a day watching their youtubes, old and new… couldn’t pick a fav if I tried, I love them all!!
Love you too, Dawn!!
Gina, they are awesome live, aren’t they? Even live YouTubed. 🙂
I fell in love with SNC a few years ago when I discovered them on youtube. As with many of my obsessions, I meant to stay on top of it a little more but after a few months of obsessively watching the same videos over and over, I gradually weaned myself away. Fast forward two years later and as I was randomly flipping channels, I saw an a cappella concert on tv. I thought whoa, they totally remind me of SNC. That’s because it WAS Straight No Chaser! I got all excited, went online, and saw that I had missed seeing them perform near my house by about two weeks. Worst stalker ever!
My favorite old song is “The Lion Sleeps Tonight” but my favorite new song is either “I’m Yours/Over the Rainbow” or “Fix You.” I am one of the five people on the entire planet who doesn’t like Coldplay, but their version of “Fix You” is so lush and gorgeous. Love it!
Well, of course, you totally turned me on to SNC, but I haven’t purchased any of their music…yet. I would absolutely LOVE to win this (as you probably already know). Whether I do or not, I think it’s time to buy some of my own, though. Thanks for having this groovy giveaway, Dawn.
