The day before my new camera arrived I explained to my husband that although I am very motivated to learn, this would be a whole lot more equipment than I’m capable of using at this point. He looked at me and said, “ESO.”

“Huh?” was my intelligent reply.

“ESO. Equipment Superior to Operator.” He then explained to me, based on his experience many years ago in retail electronics, that this is a code referring to the kind of people who who can’t figure out how to connect their VCR to their television (or make it stop flashing 12:00): “Televisions, line 1, ESO.”

ESO. That’s me, alright.

I am having lots of fun and have already snapped over 300 pictures in a week’s time. My goal is to learn to properly use the manual settings. Right now I’m just happy to be utilizing the auto settings: macro, sports, portrait, etc.

I’ve got to answer the big questions like should you use flash for shady outdoor conditions?

What do you think? I’ll post more pictures later; I’ve certainly got enough.

I’m just waiting for the day when my E won’t be so completely S to its O.
