Thanks to our MoviePass cards, we continue to see more movies than ever. Recents include: Vertigo (the old Alfred Hitchcock movie, in theaters thanks to Fathom Events), Pacific Rim, Ready Player One, Paul Apostle of Christ, Hitler vs. Picasso (a one night event), and A Quiet Place.
I would love to see the quirky-looking Isle of Dogs, which was only showing downtown but is expanding to more theaters now.
We saw A Quiet Place last night in a packed theater, which honestly, I think is the best way to see this movie. There is very little sound or dialogue, so the impact of a room full of terrified, silent people really added to it!
It’s no accident that the movie currently has a 96% critics rating on Rotten Tomatoes. It’s listed as Horror & Mystery & Thriller, but I think Thriller suits it best. As someone asked me on Facebook: is it Hitchcock scary or slasher scary? I say Hitchcock scary. It’s a thought-provoking movie that reminded my husband and me of M. Night Shyamalan’s Signs, another movie which was frightening but explored the depth of family relationships.
