It’s easy to see God’s goodness when life is sweet. When our hearts are happy our eyes are open to His glorious presence and the beauty of His creation all around us. But sometimes life is just plain hard. It’s in these times we must hold fast to this simple truth: God is good all the time.

My recent days have held a crazy mix of the highest highs and the lowest lows. We just travelled out of state for the birth of our first grandchild. What an amazing thing to watch my son and daughter-in-law become parents, my husband become a grandfather, and my kids become aunts and uncles! Now I know the joy of grandparenthood.

As we started our trip back home, I received a call from my stepmom: my dad, who was diagnosed with cancer last summer, received good results from his PET scan after completing six months of chemo and radiation. Hallelujah!

The next day my 15-year-old son and I attended a mother/son outing at a large indoor entertainment center, where a bizarre go kart accident landed me in the ER with a hand injury. Thankfully I don’t have broken bones, I’m just bruised, sore, and swollen. I spent the weekend in a hand splint, binge-watching Designated Survivor, frustrated by all the things I couldn’t do and feeling sorry for myself (in spite of being grateful nothing is broken).

And today, while writing this post, I found out my husband lost his job with the company where he’s worked for over 17 years.

Please visit me today at (in)courage for the rest of the story as we think about God’s promises and how we can rely on Him in all circumstances, both good and bad.
