This month’s desktop calendar features one of my favorite Bible verses, 2 Timothy 1:7: “For God hath not given us the spirit of fear; but of power, and of love, and of a sound mind.”
In America, we celebrate our country’s freedom on July 4th, but this is a verse we can remember all year as we celebrate the freedom we have in Christ. If He has not given us the spirit of fear, then He’s offered us freedom from it in Him.
When I’m afraid, which happens more often than I like, I ponder this verse. While there are legitimate reasons to feel fear, sometimes we need to shake its crippling grip and hold fast to the power, love, and sound mind God gives us in its place.
