I love conferences. Last weekend we attended the Great Homeschool Convention and I’ll be at Photoshop World in two weeks. Later this year I’ll go to my high school reunion, our annual (in)courage authors’ retreat, and Allume.

As much as I enjoy these opportunities to learn, network, and catch up with friends, I limit my time away from home. The internet reminds us what we miss in the form of Facebook statuses, Twitter updates, and Instagram feeds and sometimes it feels like all the cool kids are somewhere you’re not.

It’s a symptom of the small world we live in, capable of simultaneously connecting us with those far away and disconnecting us from the people in front of us.

Thankfully there’s (in)RL (pronounced in real life), the un-conference that invites you to stay home and connect with women in your area. Registration is FREE and allows you access to the Friday and Saturday online webcasts. This year (in)RL is the weekend of April 25 & 26.

How It Works

  • Stream the opening (in)RL sessions from your computer on Friday (full agenda here)
  • Attend or host a local meetup on Saturday (mine is here)
  • Build new friendships and strengthen old ones face-to-face in your community

We Need YOUR Story

We Need YOUR Story is this year’s (in)RL theme. We all have a story and no one can tell yours like you. Don’t be afraid to sign up for a meetup where you don’t know anyone. Every year women show up at my door knowing no one inside. I love it and give special prizes to those brave souls!

I’m not sure if I’ll be any less awkward on screen this time, but I’m happy to be among the speakers again this year. Meet the full line-up of (in)RL 2014 speakers here!

Have you registered? Just do it, girlfriend! You’ll be glad you did.
