[I’m certainly glad I never said “9 consecutive Days of NAPP” because that obviously didn’t happen. My fourteen-year-old son had an accident that turned into knee surgery and a 24-hour hospital stay this weekend, so life has turned a little upside down around here. Just hang with me and we’ll finish all 9 days and give out those prizes!]
Welcome to day 3 of “9 Days of NAPP”! Today I’m featuring one of my favorite Photoshop Guys, Matt Kloskowski. Matt writes the Lightroom Killer Tips blog, the place where I download my favorite Lightroom presets. Matt won’t remember me, but I’m pretty sure he thought Antique Mommy and I were stalking him and Scott Kelby at Photoshop World last September (probably because we were).
Matt is sort of a Lightroom detective: when he sees a neat photo effect somewhere, he plays around in Lightroom until he can reproduce it. Then he creates a preset and offers it for free on his site, including before and after photos. I watched his “On Image Controls” video at Peachpit last week and have used that technique multiple times since then.
If you’ve spent any time visiting my blog, you may not have realized that Matt Kloskowski is an unsung hero here. Some of my favorite photos pay homage to his genius:
Four in one photo here (in this order): Surreal Edgy Effect (level 4), Soft Focus (level 1), Artistic Tints (orange), Edge Darkening (level 1):
There were 25 steps in the processing of this photo, including six of Matt’s presets:
As you can see, I am a huge fan of Matt’s and completely addicted to his presets. If you’re a Lightroom user, the Lightroom Killer Tips blog is a must-read.
Matt is now on Twitter – click the pic to follow him!

There have been a few times when I’ve felt like I should even bother writing up tutorials because NAPP already has SO much content out there already. Just subscribing to the various podcasts for Lightroom and Photoshop as well as Photoshop User TV and PlanetPhotoshop… the wealth of free knowledge is amazing! Then you get into the NAPP member’s only area of tips and tricks as well as the tutorials… Information overload!!

Are we supposed to twitter and post in every day? Do we get multiple chances on multiple days? Or just one chance on one post and then come back to read the rest? 🙂 I’m confused.
But What I’m NOT Confused About:
Matt. Anyone that can do THAT to your photos is worthy of my adoration. I followed him. And likely will stalk him if I ever end up with enough money to go to a Photoshop World, too. You go girl!
I have to say again, your photos rock. I played with my old film 2.8 today. It takes photos on my digital and even auto focuses, but it gives me an 01 error and makes me turn it off before it will allow me to see the shot. SO ANNOYING. It isn’t all that much better of a lens, but it allows in more light than my 3.5 digital lens. I still want a macro. I have my eye on a Tameron, but would love to hear more about macros from you. I think we have the same camera – just different brand – so I want to know why I can’t seem to get enough light into mine. Maybe you are using a different lens? I want to know all the secrets… and maybe you could dumb down all the lens numbers and f-stop mumbo jumbo for us people who have an eye and no brain. 😉
Love ya! You are SO the right person for this evangelism thing. Way to go NAPP!

Matt ROCKS!
So, you kinda have to have a decent photo to start with, right? I mean all your photos are absolutely awesome! But mine look really bad 🙂 Maybe you can send me a few of your before processing shots so I can see what I need to strive for before worrying about processing 😀
