What did you do for Thanksgiving? Our family celebrated at my dad and stepmom’s this year and our kids spent the weekend with them. We’ll get them back at church again on Sunday. With this temporary lack of responsibility for others, my husband and I have done wild things like wake up at 5 a.m. to go Black Friday shopping and make a last-minute decision to attend a concert last night.
On Wednesday evening we decided to rearrange our entire living room, which hasn’t changed much in layout in the six years we’ve lived here. My husband and two of our older sons did some heavy lifting and I emptied bookcases and dusted and vacuumed everything in their path. With the new arrangement, we needed an extra piece of furniture (we have a lot of people to seat around here), especially after “retiring” a much-used piece this summer.
The hubs and I hit the Black Friday at Ashley Furniture. Being among the first 50 in line got us a $100 gift card and there was a 25% discount on purchases before 11 a.m. We scored a couch for $275 after discount and gift certificates (but before tax and delivery). What a deal! They have a room planner that allows you to plug in dimensions for your room and furniture and virtually manipulate them. It’s not only helpful but addictive and can be found here.
Our 10-year-old son called yesterday to find out where Elfis, our The Elf on the Shelf, hid himself on his first day back this year. He sat serenely in the bookcase, waiting for the kids to come home and look for him.
An email from The Crimson Moon Cafe in Dahlonega, GA, yesterday alerted us that Montana Skies—Jonathan and Jennifer Adams, a husband-wife combo playing guitar and cello—would perform there last night. This was my 4th Montana Skies concert. We first saw them 7 or 8 years ago with our oldest daughter when she was interested in learning to play violin. A few years ago I took our 16-year-old son to see them on his birthday.
Now that same son plays guitar and he’s done two Skype lessons with Jonathan, helping him test the workability of teaching online. Our son has learned so much being mentored and taught this way. If you’re interested in Skype lessons, you’ll find Jonathan’s contact information here.
I’m off now to be hugely productive around the house in the absence of distractions, but honestly, I just want to veg out in front of the TV for a White Collar marathon, my new addiction, streamable from Netflix, or curl up with The Return of Sherlock Holmes, which I’ve been reading in the car on my iPad.
Did you hit the Black Friday sales? From home on your computer or live and in person? And what did your camera phone capture this week?
